Children's Museum of the Lowcountry
The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry has nine exhibits that will keep your family entertained for hours.
- Creation Station - Recyclable materials take on a whole new life with a child’s imagination, for example create a knight’s armor from recycled egg cartons.
- Painting Place - Create works of art using washable paints.
- Discovery Den - Encourages children to try new artistic media and techniques, such as oil pastels, collage, weaving, etc.
- Sensory Space - Practice fine motor skills, color recognition and language development while exploring various materials like PLAYdough and moon sand.
- Medieval Creativity Castle - Explore a castle made just for children while dressing as a prince or princess, discovering secret passageways, learning historical facts, cooking a royal feast and embarking on a knightly quest.
- Kids Garden - Play in the seven different organic beds in the Kids’ Garden and watch a butterfly chase bugs, and learn the basics of botany while tasting mint, rosemary and lemongrass.
- Waterwise - Navigate boats through the Charleston Harbor, explore cause and effect and how hydroelectric dams work, and use problem-solving skills to manipulate a model of the Pinopolis Lock.
- Pirates - Climb aboard the Pirate Ship and step back in time, while dressing like a pirate, and then walking the plank or learning how to tie knots like a sailor.
- Publix Market - Children hone their math skills as they weigh the amount of fruit they want to purchase or count currency to pay their grocery bills.
The museum is self guided and allows children to explore with hands-on exhibits. Allow about two hours to explore all the exhibits in the museum. Guests can either use metered parking around the museum or park in one of the two parking decks on either side of the museum for a fee.
