Central Baptist Church Charleston
Central Baptist Church, completed in 1893, is thought to be one of the first black churches founded and built solely by African Americans in Charleston. The Carpenter Gothic style church was designed by black architect John P. Hutchinson. Notable features include, a semicircular apse with Gothic arch, original galleries and pews, and hand-painted murals depicting scenes from the life of Christ.
