Edisto Beach is one of the few remaining family friendly, relatively undeveloped beaches on the coastline of South Carolina. The 4.5 miles of uncrowded, pristine beach are dotted with beach houses, but no hotels or motels. For generations, families have escaped to Edisto Beach, just 45 minutes from historic Charleston. Easy access to the area's shell-rich beach gives visitors opportunities for boating, fishing, crabbing, shrimping, kayaking, bird-watching, or just lounging by the surf. The island is best known for its natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle, giving visitors a chance to enjoy the slower pace of days gone by. Free parking for the beach is available at the public beach access points, or visitors can pay to park at Edisto Beach State Park.
